What is Memory Notes?
Memory Notes is a community of singers who have all been affected by dementia: some are living with the condition; others are carers and supporters. Participants meet weekly to sing together: currently there are 22 families registered with the group.
Led by Agi Peach and her dedicated volunteers, the group is inclusive, flexible and is open to participants’ many changing needs and circumstances. Memory Notes provides a supportive environment for all, fostering friendship and confidence.

History
Memory Notes was set up in 2014 by Rowena Whitehead and Sylvia Dannreuther and was led by Rowena until her retirement in 2024. Their aim was to create a weekly singing group for people living with dementia and their carers which would be a joyful, relaxed singing community where participants could have a strong sense of belonging.
The group grew out of the project Singing for the Brain, an Alzheimer’s Society initiative, which met in Sawston. Memory Notes has always been supported by a team of highly skilled singing volunteers, most of whom still work with the group. From its beginnings at the Stables Block at St Andrew’s Church, which we quickly outgrew, the group now thrives at the St Andrew’s Centre in Histon under the skilled leadership of Agi Peach.
In this short interview Bryan explains what being part of Memory Notes means to him:
“As a daughter, the group gives me an opportunity to do something with my Mum that I genuinely enjoy – we both benefit from the group. It doesn’t feel like I’m doing something just for Mum.”
